The Hidden Gem of Shropshire

Hi all,

How's are you all coping with the fasting month? I hope everything is going fine so far. This post will be about my recent 2 days 1 night trip to Shropshire, a county in the West Midlands, England. The trip was kind of impromptu as I was invited by my junior who wanted a company for this trip as she wanted a getaway before flying back to Malaysia for her summer holiday. As I was busy with dissertation and class I kind of think I need a getaway before I immerse myself in full on dissertation mode; though I've got another module to complete before I can focus 100% on dissertation.

So we took a the Virgin train from Coventry to Shrewsbury (direct service) and the journey was about one hour and a half. Once we arrived at Shresbury, we had to change train to get to Church Stretton. Church Stretton is a historic Market town well known for its scenic walking paths and that's what we planned to do here.

Once we got off the train at the strain station, we head out to the start of our scenic walk. Initially we decided to do the 21km Lodge Hill, The Lawley, and Caer Caradoc based on the website that we found. However, without a proper map of the area it was a bit difficult. So, we ended up just exploring Willstone Hill, Middle Hill, and Hope Bowdler Hill. We enjoyed the walk and the scenery along the way. No wonder this place is called a walker's town.
Met some cotton balls along the way
I love the view from up here. The camera didn't do justice to the beauty of this place

After the hike, we explored the town of Church Stretton before heading back to Shrewsbury. We walked around the town of Shrewsbury all the way to English bridge before walking back to our accommodation where we spent the night.

The next day, we initially decided to go on the half a day bus tour but we then got to know that the bus tour was only on the weekend. So head to Lyth Hill instead to do the Shrewsbury Ramblers Walk 6: The no pain panorama walking trail. The walk is it said, it was very panoramic and we had a good time during the walk. Besides that, the walking trail was very well labelled hence you will not get lost if you ever decided to do it.

We came across a deer farm
After the walk, we came back to Shrewsbury an decided to get on the cruise. The cruise was very relaxing and informative. We got to know that the English and the Welsh bridges can be determined by the number of the arches. The English bridge has 7 arches and the Welsh bridge has 5 arches. So, if you ever get lost in Shrewsbury and end up at one of these bridges; just count the number of arches and you will know where you are.

After the cruise, we walked a bit more around the town before taking the train back to Coventry. We had a really good time with the nature for the past 2 days and hopefully to come and explore other parts of Shropshire.

Till then~
