Scrap Book Project

Image
Since I have some free time in my hand, I decided to put into action my scrapbook project which has been on hold for nearly 2 years (yes, it has been that long). This project is basically compiling all my travel tickets and other stuff for my future reference. Looking back at all of the tickets brought back memories of the travels. These are definitely the memories that I cherished. Want a sneak peek of my work? Here they are: Now that this scrapbook is up to date, I just have to update it with my future travels. Can't wait for it, the next one will be in two weeks time! Weeeee...

A good start to the new year

Image
Hi all, A good news came in the email yesterday morning, after completing my Honours year (final year of degree) for 7 ++ years; the work that I did is finally published in Nature Communications. That was longer than I expected and I am ever thankful that it is finally out. Although I only contributed a little during my 8 months of Honours year out of the whole paper, I am proud that I am able to contribute something to the scientific community. Since I am no longer doing anything related to research, I guess this will be my last published scientific paper, unless I ever decided to do a PhD sometime down the road. Let me further think about that choice ;P If you're interested, here's the link to the paper . I guess this is a good start for this year. 2018, bring it on! Till then~

New look for the new year

Image
It's another year and I can't believe that this year will be the 10th year since I started blogging, and yes that's a long way I've come. I'm not going to bore you with another boring new year wish and resolution post.  Reflecting on what happened in 2017, I've realised that I've come a long way since then. How both my professional and personal life had an unexpected turn and I've realised that whatever plans I had for myself was never really mine as Allah has better plans for me. Even though I have not seen the light at the end of the tunnel yet, who am I to doubt the what Allah has planned for me. Whatever it is, I believe it will be the best for me.  So hoping that 2018 will be a better year for me and I can't wait to write 12 new chapters in my life with 365 new pages.

Viper Virgin No More

Another achievement unlocked! After wanting to try for some time I finally had the guts to do Viper Challenge. Well, we registered as a team of 4 but 2 of my friends had a problem with their registration so ended it was just the 2 of us. We signed up for the 6.45am flag off and it was a good decision as it wasn't that hot and we managed to finish everything in 4 hours. It was quite challenging especially the upper body obstacles and out of 20 obstacles I completed 18 as the 2 that I missed are actually wall kind of challenge which I don't have the height and support to complete it. Besides that, it was pretty muddy as well. Overall, it was quite a fun and interesting experience but will I do it again? Maybe not. Yup, definitely survived My post Viper meal, soo good!

New phase, new life

It's Valentine's day today!!! Well, it's not what I want to write about today. So today is my last day as 'penanam anggur' aka unemployed as I will be in the working again starting tomorrow.  Half excited, half nervous but I'm really looking forward to this new place. new adventure, and new challenges. Wish me luck!

Comfort Zone

Hi all, I'm back in my comfort zone of my parent's home. Yeay!! After 1 year and 5 months abroad I am finally home where I belong. It feels so good to be back but a bit tired from the journey and jet lag. Even this morning I woke up at 4 in the morning and failed to go back to bed. Then I had breakfast with my dad before he heads to work and now I'm trying to keep awake as it is already 1 in the morning in the UK. Can't wait to meet and catch up with my friends. Till then~

Money money money

Hi all, A piece that I wrote for Warwick student blog was published today. After few revisions, it was finally out and you can find the article here . For those who are looking for funding to pursue their education (be it tertiary or a professional certificate)  can be difficult. Therefore I hope my post will be able to help those who are struggling with funding. Besides that, some of you may not have a clue on how to write a candidacy statement. Here is how I wrote mine when I applied for a scholarship to fund my Master's programme: Introduction - your background including your education history and if you have work experience; a brief description of your work experience(s). Why do you want to study the course - give reasons why do you want to pursue the course? You can list out the modules that attracted you to apply for the course. Future plans - what you hope to obtain from studying the course, which modules are relevant for your future career plans (list out mo...

Unleashing the inner child in me

Image
Hi all, So I've been seeing a lot of adult coloring books at the bookstores lately and it kind of drawn me to them. Thinking back, I think every kids like to colour at certain point when they're growing up and I'm no exception. Every time I go into a bookstore (Yes, I'm a bookworm and bookstores are my kind of heaven) and looked at the prices of these coloring books, oh my these books are so out of my budget. But a week ago, I went into The Works website to look for a story book (they have quite a good bargain for books) and found that they have colouring books that are within my budget. So, the outcome was not 1 or 2 but I ended up buying 3 coloring books; and they only cost me GBP 10. Quite a good bargain right? My 'damage' from The Works. Sorry for my lack of photography skills. I was so excited, and this was teh result of that. If people ask me what I'm currently doing, I'll reply I'm colouring books in my free time..hehe. You should g...

Again, I am thankful

Hi all, It's been a nerve wrecking day for me as my MSc result came out today. Alhamdulillah I made it to the 'D' list. I am ever thankful to Allah the Almighty for allowing me to complete my Master's with flying colours. Thank you to my family and friends for the 'support' and for all the prayers. I would not have made it without all of you. Now, I can just look forward to my graduation in January and then head back home to my beloved family. Till then~

Pretty please..

It's the Winter graduation ceremony week and lots of graduates are here to receive their award. Looking at the class of 2014 and their families made me think that in a year's time, hopefully it'll be my turn to don the graduation robe and receiving my Master's award. Then, a thought came to mind. It'll be nice to bring my husband (whoever it might be) to my graduation ceremony.. Well, a girl can dream. Do pray that my dream will come true Pretty please... ;P

The Jakun-ness in me

Image
First of all, please forgive my Manglish in the title. I had no other words to replace it. Last night, I received a whatsapp message from my sister at 2140. The conversation goes like this: Sis: Okay I'm waiting for snow pics from you Me: Where got snow Me: Hujan adala (as I saw the raining symbol at the weather widget on my laptop) Sis: --Showed me a print screen of my neighbour's tweet-- --I went to my window and peeked outside-- Me: Ok mmg snow kat luar When I saw that it was snowing outside, I shouted to my housemate who's upstairs doing her assignment to change and go out to play with the snow. So jakun right? Without thinking much, I put on my jeans and headscarf, and went out with a camera and the house key. I didn't even bother putting on my jacket (as I was so excited). Who wouldn't be? first time experiencing snow since I got here. The last time it snowed on boxing day, I was in Bristol. It only manage to last about 10 minutes outside before I s...

I'm back in Coventry after three weeks of traveling. The trip was a whole lot of fun but the news that I heard/read from back home during the trip was devastating. So many misfortunes happened in 2014, with the two Malaysian Airlines incidents still fresh in mind; the world was shocked by the missing Air Asia plane a few days ago. In addition, the terrible flood that is affecting the east coast of West Malaysia, where some of my mum's side of the family are affected by it. Be strong to all the people and families affected. My prayers goes to all of you.

I'm safe

Salam to all, Just want to let you all know that I have safely arrived in UK. Though not yet in Coventry but currently in Bristol. I landed at Heathrow Airport last Saturday around 4.30pm local time without much hassle from the immigration and border control. But I had to wait for my sister to arrived from Qatar before taking the bus to Bristol at 1 in the morning. Finally managed to reach Bristol at 3am. I'm still struggling with jetlag and trying to beat it by being a tourist around Bristol. Heathrow Airport 20092014 2307 Well, this post won't be about Bristol, will write about it soon. I just want to express my gratitude to my colleagues and friends that held farewells for me. My colleagues organized a lunch potluck for me which I was deeply touched and they personally cooked the dishes for the event. Lunch with Tiff, Shermynn and Becky before they head off for their holiday and they won't be around during the potluck lunch. Some of the delicious foods coo...

Should I or should I not?

To kids out there who really want to grow up fast so they can be adults, my advice to you is DON’T! We adults wish to go back to being a kid so that we don’t have to do what adults do. Sometimes it’s tiring being an adult. We adults have so many things to think about, the responsibilities to take care of and the decisions to make. Decision making is tough, especially if you have equally good options to choose from. I hate making decisions but in life we cannot run away from it. We have to make decisions on a daily basis. Even early in the morning when you start your day you have to decide whether you want to get up or sleep in. This is just what we have to do as a human being. Well getting back to the topic, I have to make a decision regarding my future and I have to decide on it soon. So, should I or should I not? I’ll give myself the end of this week to decide

Of Laksa Johor and Nasi Kerabu

Salam to all, It's been awhile since I've updated this blog. I was a bit occupied during the fasting month hence the lack of update for the past month. Well, it's already the month of Syawal where muslims around the world celebrates Eid Mubarak after a month of fasting. Talking about Eid, my Eid holiday is coming to an end and I'll be heading back to KL tomorrow. So this will be the last night I'll be spending at my grandparents house. When you talk about Eid in Malaysia, the first thing that comes to people's mind is ketupat and rendang (the famous dishes during Eid in Malaysia). These are usually the main dishes that are served during Eid. When I was a kid, I always wonder why my family never served these dishes during Eid even though they are mentioned in most Malay Eid songs. As I grew older, I started to understand that different states in Malaysia have different cultures and in the cultures that my families are in, we don't serve rendang and ke...

That time of the year again

Image
It's that time of the year again where our digestive system gets a break for a month.  This year, the fasting month starts this coming Sunday 29 June 2014.  So, to all my readers (ade ke readers?hehe)..  RAMADHAN KAREEM!! Image taken from Google image

Inner Though

Back to square one.  My one and only hope got shattered today.  I was rejected by the two and when the email came today, saying that I was unsuccessful, I’m very disappointed.  But as much disappointment that I had, I know that I couldn’t be too sad.  I have to be composed and must have faith that something better is in store for me.  I guess Allah knows what’s best for me and maybe this is not the best for me now.  Shoulder straight and chin up, I will not give up.  I will try again next year and I will not stop trying until I get it, period.

Saying Goodbye

Image
It’s already the end of the month and tomorrow will be the half year mark for this year. Time really flies and half year is already gone. Bidding goodbye to the month of May means saying goodbye to my three beautiful friends. They are all going their separate ways for a better future (wedding, work and holiday). Selvi's last day Sending Maslina off at the airport My Puteri Lilian on her last day Wan Ling's farewell messages I wish all of you the best in whatever you do in the future and hope that our paths will cross again in the future. Till then~
