A good start to the new year

Image
Hi all, A good news came in the email yesterday morning, after completing my Honours year (final year of degree) for 7 ++ years; the work that I did is finally published in Nature Communications. That was longer than I expected and I am ever thankful that it is finally out. Although I only contributed a little during my 8 months of Honours year out of the whole paper, I am proud that I am able to contribute something to the scientific community. Since I am no longer doing anything related to research, I guess this will be my last published scientific paper, unless I ever decided to do a PhD sometime down the road. Let me further think about that choice ;P If you're interested, here's the link to the paper . I guess this is a good start for this year. 2018, bring it on! Till then~

Money money money

Hi all, A piece that I wrote for Warwick student blog was published today. After few revisions, it was finally out and you can find the article here . For those who are looking for funding to pursue their education (be it tertiary or a professional certificate)  can be difficult. Therefore I hope my post will be able to help those who are struggling with funding. Besides that, some of you may not have a clue on how to write a candidacy statement. Here is how I wrote mine when I applied for a scholarship to fund my Master's programme: Introduction - your background including your education history and if you have work experience; a brief description of your work experience(s). Why do you want to study the course - give reasons why do you want to pursue the course? You can list out the modules that attracted you to apply for the course. Future plans - what you hope to obtain from studying the course, which modules are relevant for your future career plans (list out mo...

Unleashing the inner child in me

Image
Hi all, So I've been seeing a lot of adult coloring books at the bookstores lately and it kind of drawn me to them. Thinking back, I think every kids like to colour at certain point when they're growing up and I'm no exception. Every time I go into a bookstore (Yes, I'm a bookworm and bookstores are my kind of heaven) and looked at the prices of these coloring books, oh my these books are so out of my budget. But a week ago, I went into The Works website to look for a story book (they have quite a good bargain for books) and found that they have colouring books that are within my budget. So, the outcome was not 1 or 2 but I ended up buying 3 coloring books; and they only cost me GBP 10. Quite a good bargain right? My 'damage' from The Works. Sorry for my lack of photography skills. I was so excited, and this was teh result of that. If people ask me what I'm currently doing, I'll reply I'm colouring books in my free time..hehe. You should g...

Again, I am thankful

Hi all, It's been a nerve wrecking day for me as my MSc result came out today. Alhamdulillah I made it to the 'D' list. I am ever thankful to Allah the Almighty for allowing me to complete my Master's with flying colours. Thank you to my family and friends for the 'support' and for all the prayers. I would not have made it without all of you. Now, I can just look forward to my graduation in January and then head back home to my beloved family. Till then~

It's a wrap!

Alhamdulillah praise to Allah, I have finally completed this chapter of life. I can't believe that this phase of my live has finally come to an end. To be honest, I'm quite sad that it has ended. I really enjoyed the classes, the assignments, the people that I met, the fun times that I had in the past 12 months. It was really a nice break from work and actually I'm in no rush to go back to the working world. As for now, I'm going to enjoy my break while it lasts and I'm officially penanam anggur terhormat (read: unemployed). Good night! My night and day for the past 3 months One with my supervisor. Please give me good marks for my dissertation Thank you both for all your support for the past 12 months Done done done..yes, I've mastered my dissertation

Presenting Prezi

Image
Hello everyone, Are you always doing presentation and bored with PowerPoint? Well, there's a cool presentation software that I was introduced to called Prezi . It's an online presentation program that moves through a non-linear presentation on path as opposed to using slides. Its has better graphic and makes your presentation more interesting than the classic PowerPoint. Check the video below to know what it looks like: All you have to do is create a public account (or you can buy a pro account) and start Prezentin! The presentation is saved onto a cloud and you can access it anywhere as long as you have internet connection. Plus, it has a similar feature as Google Slide where multiple people can work on the presentation at the same time as long as they have a Prezi account.  Though the software has its limitation where you cannot create smart art. Besides that if you want to insert a picture, you cannot copy it from the source and paste it here. You have to save the...

Thank you..Google Doc

Image
Hello everyone, This is a rare post from me. I usually post mainly on food and travel stories but today I want to share something that I just out last month My course here requires a lot of group work and when I mean a lot, at least one for each module which usually involves group presentation. When working in a group, we have our parts to prepare and it is a pain in the ass trying to keep up with the different versions of the document. The conventional method that we've done so far have been creating a Facebook group and preparing our slides using power point, them uploading our ppt document to the Facebook group. Whoever uploads the updated version have to delete the previous version to avoid confusion and to ensure that we all have the latest version of the presentation. For the last five group work, things got better with Google Doc or in our case it was Google Slides (because it was mainly presentation that we work in group). With Google Slides, we just need our google a...

Hello busy February

Can you believe it already that the first month of 2015 has already passed. Well, hello February. It's going to be a busy month for me. So, bring it on!

Pretty please..

It's the Winter graduation ceremony week and lots of graduates are here to receive their award. Looking at the class of 2014 and their families made me think that in a year's time, hopefully it'll be my turn to don the graduation robe and receiving my Master's award. Then, a thought came to mind. It'll be nice to bring my husband (whoever it might be) to my graduation ceremony.. Well, a girl can dream. Do pray that my dream will come true Pretty please... ;P

Done done done

I am officially done with Term 1 of my Masters Degree!!! That was fast right? I couldn't believe myself that it was over already and another 9 months I'll be done with this program. But mind you I didn't realize it will be this hectic. I have been warned that it will be busy, I just didn't realized that it will be VERY, VERY busy. With new module (subject/course) every two weeks and each module there are three assessments to be submitted within the timeline. So basically, an exam, presentation and written essay to be submitted within the two weeks period. Though the essay is due 4 weeks after the module is due, I still have another going on at the same time. It was not what I imagined when I signed up for this course. But I'm a quarter way there already, might as well see it to the end.  Literally how I felt during throughout the term (Taken from 9gag) So, here I am resting at home after completing my exam and presentation today. The exam was a bit hard and mos...

Back to school

Image
Salam, As most of you already know, I'm back in school to pursue my postgraduate study. It's only been the second day and I'm already feeling tired. I think it's going to be a roller coaster ride for me for the next one year. And did I mention that I already received an assignment that I need to hand in next Friday. Well, wish me luck and pray that everything will go smoothly for me here. I'll treat you to some photos: A book I found at Car boot Sale that i think might be useful for me =P Excited kid on her first day of school and around my new school.

23rd July

Image
It was a Friday. The day start with Josh bringing a cake to IMB. It was his first attempt in baking and by the look of it and from the responses  from the people that ate it, it's good. I was quite eager to have a taste of his cake as he'd been promising to bake one two weeks before that. Then, while waiting for other people to come, one of his friends asked him what kind of liquor he used. Me and Hana was looking at each other and I said to myself, "Damn I can' eat it". So, me and Hana sat there watching the others eat the cake. Though they did say that we can eat it as the alcohol in it has already evaporate during cooking. But who will buy that kind of shit? It's still alcohol and it's still forbidden. Josh enjoying his own creation Ernest, Soumya and Me That afternoon, it was the Science July Graduation and I have three friends graduating. Looking at these people in their robes and scroll, makes me want to graduate soon. I really c...

NCG Updates

Image
Fuhh (blowing left and right to get rid of the dust on this blog). Sorry everyone for not updating this blog for a while. Everything has been hectic since I got back from my holiday. I've got everything that I want to write in my head, it's just I don't have the time to jot it down. This post will be all about my hopefully last NCG experience.  I've been telling myself after last year's NCG in Sydney that it will be my last NCG and I won't participate in it again this year. But being me who can't keep away from sports for too long I'd took a week off from my honours year for the sake of NCG. One reason was that there was not enough players but I think the major reason is just my eagerness to play.hehe.. But, if you asked me if it was worth it. I would definitely say yes. No doubt. It wasn't the best NCG experience but it was definitely the worst. There were so many shortcomings to it. But I won't go into the details. But in terms of achi...

A short break is all I need

Salam to all, I haven't had the time time to blog these few weeks. I've so many things to write but I just can't find the time. Currently, I'm in Sydney (again), on my week off from my lab work. I'll be heading down to Canberra tomorrow for the annual NCG.  Although I promised myself that last year was going to be my last NCG, it looks like I just can't keep the promise to myself. I'm regretting my decision right now due to lab work and assignments but I know deep down inside of me that I want to go. So, I guess it'll turn out good in the end. My visit to Sydney is a bit quiet this year. Most of my friends are either back home in Malaysia or elsewhere. Luckily I still have Wajdi and Kacang. Thank you guys for entertaining me. I'll be lost without you guys. I've nothing much to write actually. I'm killing time while waiting for the final match of World Cup at Darling Harbour (if I can make it and not fall asleep). Wish us Queens...

......

At times like this I feel like getting on a plane and go far away from this place. I don't know where I'm heading to. Anywhere will do as long as it's away from here.

This n that

So many things have been going on for the past week. I've wanted to blog about all of it but I just can't find the time to write. Hence, before the story got a bit old I'll write about it. This will be like a summary of what's been happening for the past week. Saturday : My aunt got married and I'm missing another wedding and family reunion again. It really sucks to be abroad and miss this kind of thing. Being overseas and far from family has its disadvantages though I don't deny there are good sides of it too. To avoid from being all emotional and a bitch to myself, I decided to follow my house mates to DFO and do some shopping. I didn't really have the urge to shop so I didn't buy anything. Sunday was a blast. Went out with Mia, Hana, Nabila, Aainaa, Rurry, Elena and Zaf. At first we went to brush up our vocals at Fat Louie, followed by dinner, watched SATC2 at Regent and finally photo shoot at Riverside.  The brushing up our vocals part was ...

It's Friday again

My favourite day of the week has come again, which means I have 2 days holiday ahead of me. Yeay for that. I've just realized that I've been updating this blog once a week now. It's not that I'm neglecting this blog, I've been quite busy recently. I'll update on what's been happening for the past week and a half. I've been ditching my lab work for a week now to concentrate on my research proposal. I had a meeting with him on Wednesday discussing my draft. Due to my last minute work, I only managed to finish the draft the night before and emailed it to him at midnight. Apparently, we were supposed to send it to him at least 2 days before that as he's so busy during the day and don't have time to read it. Luckily he read it and I got it back with lots of blue scribbles all over it ( he didn't use red pen ). Now I had to mend my proposal and hopefully I don't need to do any more corrections after this. Despite the tension that I was...

Final year

Dah lama tertunggak nak tulis post ni, since the first day start honours lagi tapi ada sahaja halangan. Ni dah second week of hons ada 38 minggu lagi. Bila kira ikut minggu rasa macam tak banyak pun masa untuk hons tapi banyak benda yang nak kena buat. Ingat the first week tu bolehla relax2 sikit sebab baru first week. Rupa2nya tidak, the third day dah start run experiment, test compounds. Tapi memang dapat rasa it's going to be a hell of a year. Sebab dari pagi sampai petang duduk kat lab pastu assignment lagi kena buat. Ntah bila ntah nak selit buat assignment tu. Balik dari lab memang akan terbongkang kepena...

Oh honours~

I've made up my mind regarding honours I'll be doing honours with my current supervisor Hopefully I've made the correct desicion and thank you to those who helped me during my dilemma (you know who you are) Can't wait for next year

The End

30th October 2009 marked the end of my classes day in uni. But  I still have exam to get out of the way first before I'm officially done with my third year. After this it will be honours and I'll be in lab during things that I love to do *hooray*. But then the finding-the-project part for honours is trouble and making the decision for which project to do is another trouble. That's what  I'm going through right now. I didn't know it was that hard in making the desicion. I have three projects that I want to do and I feel like splitting my body into three parts so that I can do all three projects. That's how hard it is for me to make up my mind. Well, I kinda made up my desicion last week but I don't feel like I'm making the correct one. Don't askme why because I don't have the answer to it myself. For the time being I just wanna concentrate on my exam and make up my mind after I'm done with my exam. Hopefully I'm sure about my desicion...
