A good start to the new year

Image
Hi all, A good news came in the email yesterday morning, after completing my Honours year (final year of degree) for 7 ++ years; the work that I did is finally published in Nature Communications. That was longer than I expected and I am ever thankful that it is finally out. Although I only contributed a little during my 8 months of Honours year out of the whole paper, I am proud that I am able to contribute something to the scientific community. Since I am no longer doing anything related to research, I guess this will be my last published scientific paper, unless I ever decided to do a PhD sometime down the road. Let me further think about that choice ;P If you're interested, here's the link to the paper . I guess this is a good start for this year. 2018, bring it on! Till then~

New phase, new life

It's Valentine's day today!!! Well, it's not what I want to write about today. So today is my last day as 'penanam anggur' aka unemployed as I will be in the working again starting tomorrow.  Half excited, half nervous but I'm really looking forward to this new place. new adventure, and new challenges. Wish me luck!

Presenting Prezi

Image
Hello everyone, Are you always doing presentation and bored with PowerPoint? Well, there's a cool presentation software that I was introduced to called Prezi . It's an online presentation program that moves through a non-linear presentation on path as opposed to using slides. Its has better graphic and makes your presentation more interesting than the classic PowerPoint. Check the video below to know what it looks like: All you have to do is create a public account (or you can buy a pro account) and start Prezentin! The presentation is saved onto a cloud and you can access it anywhere as long as you have internet connection. Plus, it has a similar feature as Google Slide where multiple people can work on the presentation at the same time as long as they have a Prezi account.  Though the software has its limitation where you cannot create smart art. Besides that if you want to insert a picture, you cannot copy it from the source and paste it here. You have to save the...

Thank you..Google Doc

Image
Hello everyone, This is a rare post from me. I usually post mainly on food and travel stories but today I want to share something that I just out last month My course here requires a lot of group work and when I mean a lot, at least one for each module which usually involves group presentation. When working in a group, we have our parts to prepare and it is a pain in the ass trying to keep up with the different versions of the document. The conventional method that we've done so far have been creating a Facebook group and preparing our slides using power point, them uploading our ppt document to the Facebook group. Whoever uploads the updated version have to delete the previous version to avoid confusion and to ensure that we all have the latest version of the presentation. For the last five group work, things got better with Google Doc or in our case it was Google Slides (because it was mainly presentation that we work in group). With Google Slides, we just need our google a...

I'm safe

Image
Salam to all, Just want to let you all know that I have safely arrived in UK. Though not yet in Coventry but currently in Bristol. I landed at Heathrow Airport last Saturday around 4.30pm local time without much hassle from the immigration and border control. But I had to wait for my sister to arrived from Qatar before taking the bus to Bristol at 1 in the morning. Finally managed to reach Bristol at 3am. I'm still struggling with jetlag and trying to beat it by being a tourist around Bristol. Heathrow Airport 20092014 2307 Well, this post won't be about Bristol, will write about it soon. I just want to express my gratitude to my colleagues and friends that held farewells for me. My colleagues organized a lunch potluck for me which I was deeply touched and they personally cooked the dishes for the event. Lunch with Tiff, Shermynn and Becky before they head off for their holiday and they won't be around during the potluck lunch. Some of the delicious foods coo...

Healthy Lifestyle

Since the topic has been quite a major topic in the office, especially when most of us are girls. We decided to have a sports day. Well, not literally sports day with various sports. But just a 2 hours of workout session after work. Since there's quite a number of us, we decided to play futsal for one hour and badminton for another hour. Quite ambitious of us since for all of them, it's their first time playing futsal. But we managed to survive both hours and decided to make it a routine. Maybe every week? It was fun to sweat out again with other people and hope that we do this more often. With Miss Poser. Posing for the camera when she was supposed to be playing futsal. A pose after badminton

Avoiding Personal Pitfalls

I found this list on the internet from this website . Here are all the things that you shouldn't do to achieve success in life.So don't: 1. Jump to conclusions about other people’s motives. 2. Get caught up in competition. Strive for cooperation. 3. Describe yourself in negative terms. 4. Compare yourself to others to try and validate your results. 5. Violate your personal values or ethics for any reason. 6. Make excuses for telling lies. Just be honest and tactful. 7. Be rude to others regardless of how you feel about them. 8. Invalidate other people’s feelings. 9. Disrespect yourself or others. 10. Forget to be grateful. 11. Talk down to people. 12. Expect the worst or project negative expectations. 13. Speak in blanket generalizations. 14. Dominate conversations. 15. Try to assign blame. It doesn’t matter who’s at fault. 16. Focus on lack. 17. Put yourself or other people down. 18. Medical checkup for Baby J

Image
It's that time again where Baby J needs to go for his routine medical checkup. I took him to COSE this time as I want them to thoroughly check him. My appointment was at 8am but he only went in at 9.30am. I hope it won't take that long as I got work to do today and I'm already bringing my work here to do while waiting for him to be checked. Hopefully everything will be settled by noon and i can go back to the office. My workstation with the service bay in view to monitor Baby J

Dinner with the girls

Image
Dining out with my colleagues after work. We went to Restoran Murni at SS2, which was very close to the office. I've always heard my friend mentioning about this place but it's my first time here. Though I've been to the Taipan USJ outlet.  Deciding what to drink. They have fancy names for their drinks Finally we decided to have these: From left: I Miss You, Carrot Juice, Watermelon Juice and Mango Special Our food came a bit later so we decided to take some photos.. Our foods are here. All of us ended up ordering nasi lemak since it was the only thing that we felt like eating and the other menus were a bit too big for our tummies. Itadakimasu. I went home with a happy stomach. Here's the address to this place: Murni Discovery SS2 53 Jalan SS 2/75, Ss 2, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Till then~

Did IKEA changed their menu? It's been a while since I went there and when I went there for lunch today, I saw combination of 2 of my favourite IKEA dishes combined into 1. I can't really tell you how grateful I'm feeling right now. Today an email came into my inbox, it was from my supervisor from the School of Pharmacy. The work that I did for 3 months last year was finally published today.  All I can say right now is Alhamdulillah..Alhamdulillah and Alhamdulillah. Though my current scope of work does not involve any lab work, I wish one day I will get back in the lab and do research instead of paperwork =). Here's a snapshot of the first page: My second paper

Common Sense

Some people just lack common sense  Making a big fuss of a small thing I wonder what's inside their head?

10 Days in Kota Kinabalu

Image
I just came back from 10 days training in Kota Kinabalu. I'm there for work but we did went to do some touristy stuff during our free time. So, this post will be just another travel post from me as I won't go into the detail of my work stuff. The lab in KK was in Tanjung Aru, so we did went to Tanjung Aru Beach for lunch on the third day that we were there. The weather that day was a bit cloudy and I love the beach. It looked very clean. They also serve fresh juice here which was very delicious. Tanjung Aru Beach Fresh fruit juice stall. The auntie said it took her 3 hours to prepare this. We also head to Perdana Park in Tanjung Aru (just next to the lab) one of the day after work to watch the musical fountain show. The shown runs daily from 7pm to 8.30pm every 30 minutes. It was entertaining plus it's free. Who doesn't like free stuff right? After the water show, we head to Tanjung Lipat for seafood dinner. The tomyam that we had here was the best and it w...
