The Birmingham Quran manuscript

Image
Hi all, I saw in the news a few months back about an old Quran manuscript that was found at the University of Birmingham and I was really excited as they news mentioned it could be from the Prophet Muhammad's time. So, when I heard that they were going to display the manuscript at the University of Birmingham (so close to Coventry, but I still have to take 2 trains to get there), I had to go there and see it for myself. To get there, I took the train from Canley to Birmingham New Street and then changed train to University. The exhibition hall is about 10minutes from the University train station. Here are some photos of the manuscript, photos have to be taken without flash to protect the manuscript. The page on the right contains Surah Kahfi verses 23-31, while the pages on the left contain Surah Maryam verses 91-98 (above the red line) and Surah Taha verses 1-13 (below the red line). So the red line on the left page marks the end of Surah Maryam and the sta...

Memorizing the Quran

Have you ever find yourself trying to memorize the Quran but the progress is always slow and you get demotivated? Well here are some tips and tricks that I've learned from a recent talk by Brother Abdurrahman Al-Khanati. Where to start?  1. There's a good website called House of Quran that you can use as your reference as it gives you word by word recitation and meaning which is very helpful for the purpose of learning. 2. Lower your standard by starting small. It can be as smal1 as 1 word or 1 sentence per day. 3. Take your time in memorizing. It's OK if it will take you ages to memorize 1 surah. If you memorize it quickly, you'll forget it quickly as well. 4.  To prevent forgetting the next ayat, attach the last word from the last ayat to next one when memorizing. 5. Revise your memorization during prayer. 6. Make it a habit. Revise whatever you learn in the week during the weekend. 7. Make a picture of the scenario to help you remember the meaning. Now th...

Beautiful Holy Lands of Mecca and Medina

Image
It’s been a week plus since I came back from the two Holy Lands of Mecca and Medina. The experiences there are beyond words. I do not know how to explain it but it’s totally different to all the other places that I’ve been to and totally incomparable to the other places. A definitely must go places for all Muslims.  In this post, I won’t go into the detail of what I did there like my usual travel post, but more to some tips and tricks that might be useful if you’re planning to perform your umrah. Whatever are written here are solely based on my experience during my time at the holy lands hence it may be different when you reach there and the time that you were there.  Before I proceed further, I will explain briefly what is umrah and what we Muslims do during umrah. There are 4 things that you need to do to complete an umrah cycle and they are: 1. Niat (Intention)– You need to be in the state of ihram before entering the holy land and you usually niat at the miqat st...

Beetles and Roses (Kumbang dan Bunga)

In this post I'm sharing the knowledge that I gained from attending the Beetles and Roses talk recently held at Taylors Lakeside University, Puchong last Tuesday. This talk was organized by the Muslim Student Association of Taylors University with Wardina Safiyyah and Aiman Azlan as the panel.   1. How to manage a friendship between  male and female? a. Check your intention - what's the reason for the interaction b. Always listen to your heart. It detects when we cross the boundaries. A pure heart will have 6th sense, when we do something wrong, it will detect it. There's no such things as a perfect match. Everyone has their flaws. Accept the person as they are. Our relationship with Allah is a love story. Love Him and He will lead you to happiness We need a pure heart to love purely. Love that can be maintain is true love. So attach your love to something that is eternal (Allah) and not something that is temporary (beauty, physical, wealth etc). 2. Get t...

On the 30 th of June I was lucky to attend an all female muslimah conference in Kuala Lumpur. The conference was called Being Me and it was held at Matrade Building at Jalan Duta. Here I wanted to share with you my fellow readers the knowledge that gained from the conference, as the hadith of Prophet Muhammad which said, “Spread knowledge even if it’s one verse” I hope this post will be beneficial to all of you.  Picture taken from Google image When you have nothing to do, recite surah Al-Ikhlas 10 times. Whoever recites Surah Al-Ikhlas 10 times a day Allah will built a palace in Jannah for that person. Yasmin Mogahed - Free from all other masters   We need to change our standard of beauty as our body and soul was created for something higher than thin, sexy and beautiful Stand up and tell the world that we are a slave of God and God alone. Don’t worship beauty We are a slave of God. Don’t worship a person’s beauty and fashion sense. Our mind and soul   ...

I like to share this article with my readers.

23rd July

It was a Friday. The day start with Josh bringing a cake to IMB. It was his first attempt in baking and by the look of it and from the responses  from the people that ate it, it's good. I was quite eager to have a taste of his cake as he'd been promising to bake one two weeks before that. Then, while waiting for other people to come, one of his friends asked him what kind of liquor he used. Me and Hana was looking at each other and I said to myself, "Damn I can' eat it". So, me and Hana sat there watching the others eat the cake. Though they did say that we can eat it as the alcohol in it has already evaporate during cooking. But who will buy that kind of shit? It's still alcohol and it's still forbidden. Josh enjoying his own creation Ernest, Soumya and Me That afternoon, it was the Science July Graduation and I have three friends graduating. Looking at these people in their robes and scroll, makes me want to graduate soon. I really c...

Care for our environment

I just want to share this news that was published in the daily mail UK. Follow the Islamic way to save the world,' Prince Charles urges environmentalists Prince Charles yesterday urged the world to follow Islamic 'spiritual principles' in order to protect the environment. In an hour-long speech, the heir to the throne argued that man's destruction of the world was contrary to the scriptures of all religions - but particularly those of Islam. He said the current 'division' between man and nature had been caused not just by industrialisation, but also by our attitude to the environment - which goes against the grain of 'sacred traditions'.
