The Tongue Twister Mexican Food

Image
In the midst of proofreading my dissertation, a friend invited for lunch at the Prayer Hall today. It was actually a last minute farewell for a friend who is going back to Netherlands. So, this friend of mine is Mexican and she cooked for us Mexican food. I was excited as the closest ever to a Mexican food that I ever had was Nacho's, and it's not even a proper Mexican dish. What did she cooked for us? The dishes were called "Chilaquiles con huevo estrellado" and "Tinga de pollo". The names are quite hard to pronounce, quite a tongue twister I must say. So, what are these dishes? Chilaquiles con huevo estrellado - tortilla chips, with salsa sauce, topped with cheese, sour cream and sunny side up egg Tinga de pollo - shredded chicken in salsa sauce Here's what the dish looked like. Can you guess which one is which? The green stuff is just normal salad..hehe

Playing Giada

Image
I've been playing Giada for the past few days. I don't know why, but I was in the mood to cook. Though it doesn't help that I'm eating alone. So I don't know what effect it has on my kgs. But, who cares; you've got to enjoy life while you can right? So what's been cooking in my kitchen? give your eye a feast..hahahaha *evil laugh* Fuel for body. My breakfast for champion Jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn filling. Recipe in this blog. Vegetarian japchae (korean glass noodle) Tortilla pizza from my nearly expired tortilla and I didn't want to make a wrap out of it. Crispy chicken nachos. You can hardly see the chicken underneath the tortilla chips. Fruit cocktail pudding. I didn't have any evaporated milk or colouring at home; so I used fresh milk instead to give some "colouring" to it Not in the pics: Bubur jagung and KFC style fried chicken.

Burger&Lobster

Image
I've recently heard of this place from my sister. They have 2 branches in the UK: London and Cardiff. Since we were in Cardiff yesterday for my sister's birthday, we decided to check the place out. This place is so simple. They only have 3 things on their menu; Burger, Lobster or Lobster Roll with fries, salad, and lemon and herb butter sauce on the side. All of the three items cost £20. Personally I think the price is a bit steep for burger and the lobster roll, that's why we chose Lobster. Hungry faces waiting for our food So, if you're craving for some Lobster; I would definitely recommend this place. But get ready to be messy and it will get messy half way through. Though it might not look big, believe me; it is. I was so full at the end of the meal. So if you have a small appetite, do share it. Our grilled lobster Nyum nyum P/S: Sorry as I did not take many photo as I was too hungry to think about anything else.

Celebrating Birthday at Food Foundry

Image
I went out to eat with my colleagues yesterday to celebrate Vaani’s birthday. We decided to go to Food Foundry since it was close to our office. This is my first visit to this shop though I’ve heard about it previously. The interior Menu. The have a variety of choices We ordered three dishes for the 5 of us since none of us were that hungry and since I have a small appetite after my last fever I didn’t think that I’ll finish a whole meal for myself. In the end, we ordered seafood marinara pasta, aglio olio pasta and lamb shoulder (as per birthday girl request) as the main dishes. Aglio Oglio Seafood Marinara Lamb Shoulder I really like the seafood marinara pasta and the lamb dish. The lamb was tender and the sauce that complimented it went well with the lamb. It was very delicious. As for the aglio olio, personally there’s nothing special to it, just so-so. All the dishes in one plate Cleared all of the plates This place is famous for their mille crepe c...

Mojo Jojo

Image
Hi all, Today I won’t be talking about the villain in the cartoon power puff girl, but a cafe called Mojo Nail Cafe located in SS2, PJ. I got to know about this cafe when I saw a high tea offer at Groupon, so my friend and I decided to buy the deal. We had zero knowledge about the cafe and last Friday when I remembered about the deal that we bought a few months ago, we realized that the deal will expire this weekend. So, I called the cafe on Monday and book for appointment today.  Interior of the cafe Open style drink preparation area We went for lunch today to redeem the high tea deal. The deal consists of drinks, food and a pot of ice cream. But I don’t remember them serving us the ice cream. But the food was so-so only; I wouldn’t come here for the high tea again. Ice lemon tea & and hot latte Our 3-tier high tea set for 2 Bottom tier: waffles, spaghetti, cheese cake and coleslaw Middle tier: fruit salad, butter cookies, sandwiches and ch...

A Date with Datin M

Image
I just got back from meeting one of my high school bestie. It's been a few months since we saw each other. She just resigned her work and will be heading to the Holy Land of Mecca sometime end of this month or early next month to work there. Lucky her to be able to be on the holy land for the next one year.  Well, we met over dinner at Sunway Pyramid (my favorite spot). Knowing her, I know she wanted to eat at a place that sells good food and have dessert. Initially I wanted to suggest Tong Pak Fu, but I recently went there so we decided to go to MOF Japanese Cafe. This is my second time here, the first time was with my colleague for lunch. Since we didn't have much time previously, we didn't try their dessert. So despite that this is my second time here, it's my first time trying the dessert.  These are what we had just now: Saba Bento Set, RM28.80 Food for sick people: Kino Kimchi Pot, RM 11.90. Dessert: Shiro Kurian, RM 13. There's variety of desse...

Grilled Coconut Drink

Image
Have you ever heard of Kelapa Bakar (grilled coconut)? Well on the way to Banting to send my brother back to his college today, we saw this shop at Sungai Manggis Banting called Pak Long Kelapa Bakar. I've dined there once and I ate their kuey teow soup which was very delicious. But I never knew that they served grilled coconut as well. So we decided to stop here and give the grilled coconut a try. We just had our lunch an hour ago but I guess we were excited about the grilled coconut that we ordered one each (it was actually a bad idea as I didn't manage to finish mine by myself, luckily my brother helped me). So, what did it tasted like? It's actually warm coconut drink (you can request for ice if you want), with some lime. Plus, they will give you honey as well if you request for it. So the sweetness does not come from sugar but from honey. For a person who has sore throat like myself, this drink was very soothing. Not to mention, the abundance of coconut flesh t...

Tong Pak Fu

Image
Yesterday I went out to eat with a friend at Sunway Pyramid. We were deciding what to eat when we saw this one interesting food outlet that we never saw before. From far away, we thought that it was only a dessert place, but when we saw the menu they do serve main dish as well. The interior was very nice, it had a homey feeling to it. Maybe it's because of the bedside lamp. The interior Since it was mainly a dessert shop, most of the food that they serve is dessert with lmited choices for the main dish. Variety of mango dessert. Will definitely try one of these next time I dine here. These were the food that we had: Honey Chicken Ramen and Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun Mushroom Chicken Cheese Baked Rice Chicken Dumpling Guava Snow Ice: my favourite dish for the day If you want to dine there, here's the address: F1.76. Sunway Pyramid (next to Pasta Zanmai, near Asian Avenue).
