Searching for "Mermaid" in Tioman

Spent my last weekend with high school friends at one of Malaysia's beautiful island, Tioman. It was actually an impromptu trip that started when  one of my friend voiced out in twitter that he wanted to go for an island getaway. I suggested Tioman since my friend Ciktie is working there and he agreed straight away. He asked his girlfriend to join us and another friend who saw the conversation also wanted to join. So, there we have it, a group of 4 (one boy and three girls) headed for a weekend getaway at Tioman Island.

The three of us from KL departed from KL on Friday night to Melaka and spent the night there as it was already on our way. We head to Mersing at 4am to catch the first ferry to the island. The ferry ride costs RM35 one way and you have to pay another RM5 for the marine park entrance fee. We arrived at Mersing jetty at 8am for 9am ferry. The journey to the island was about 2 hours. It was a smooth ride. We passed Kg Paya and Kg Genting before we reached our destination, Kg Tekek the main town on the island.

Once on the island, we went to checked in at our accommodation, Coral Reef Holidays which is about  15 mins away from the jetty. We put our bags down and freshen up before we head out again. We wanted to go jungle trekking to the other side of the island to Kg Juara. The trek is about 7km long. When we asked for the direction to the start of the trail at the accommodation reception, the lady told us to follow the power cable to the left. We followed the cable until we can't see the power cable anymore. Then we decided to ask one of the guy nearby. Apparently he's not local but he told us that the jungle trekking track was on the opposite direction. Oh no! we we're on the wrong way all this while.

We decided to listen to the guy and change direction. We saw a paved road going uphill and thought this might be the road as my friend did mentioned that it was a bit hilly, little that we know that it was VERY hilly. Lots of Kembara passed by and honked at us and we initially didn't know why. After 40 mins of going uphill and no sign of going downhill, I decided to call my friend at Kg Juara. Then she told us that we got the wrong road and the road that we're on was for vehicles. No wonder all these cars were honking at us. Nobody ever walked up the vehicle road which is about 12km long and very hilly. Lastly, Ciktie asked her friend to come and picked us up as we were very tired already.

After 10 mins the car arrived to take us to Kg Juara where Ciktie was waiting there for us.  she laughed at us for taking the wrong road.Ciktie brought us to the nearest shop for us to eat lunch as it was already late and all of us were hungry and tired.
