Grilled Coconut Drink

Image
Have you ever heard of Kelapa Bakar (grilled coconut)? Well on the way to Banting to send my brother back to his college today, we saw this shop at Sungai Manggis Banting called Pak Long Kelapa Bakar. I've dined there once and I ate their kuey teow soup which was very delicious. But I never knew that they served grilled coconut as well. So we decided to stop here and give the grilled coconut a try. We just had our lunch an hour ago but I guess we were excited about the grilled coconut that we ordered one each (it was actually a bad idea as I didn't manage to finish mine by myself, luckily my brother helped me). So, what did it tasted like? It's actually warm coconut drink (you can request for ice if you want), with some lime. Plus, they will give you honey as well if you request for it. So the sweetness does not come from sugar but from honey. For a person who has sore throat like myself, this drink was very soothing. Not to mention, the abundance of coconut flesh t

Kuching with Drama Queens Finale

Day 4: Started the day by visiting Serikin Market, a weekend market at the Malaysia-Indonesia border. We head out at 7am as we wanted to reach there before it gets too hot. Our ex-colleague, Yanthi was supposed to join us to the market, but when we went to pour petrol, she noticed that there’s a nail on her back left tyre. We changed the tyre but when we put the reserve tyre, it has no air in it and when we want to add air into it, the air won’t go in. So, she decided to take her car to the nearest workshop and we proceed with our plan to Serikin Market. Changing tyre of Yanthi's car We departed to Serikin Market at 8am and the journey was about 1 hour. By the time we reached there, it was a bit hot as the sun was already up. You can find various items here, from clothes, shoes, to kitchen appliances and home decor. People claimed that the items here are cheap. I would agree to some extent. The girls bought shoes here for the price of RM14 per pair and it was very comfor

Kuching with Drama Queens Day 3

We started the day later than previous day. Since the cave closed yesterday, we went to Wind Cave in Bau first. It’s called Wind Cave as you can feel a slight breeze when walking inside the cave. The entrance fee was only RM1. The cave was very dark, you need to bring torch light in here as it’s very dark. (You can use your hand phone light or you can rent head lamp for RM3 at the ticket counter).  At the cave entrance You can see the stalactite, stalagmite and some fruit bats in the cave. There’s a total of three passage trails inside the cave and there’s a boardwalk throughout the trails. It took us 1 hour to cover all the three trails. Be careful when you walk along the trail as the railings were covered with guano and it’s a bit slippery at some places. It would be better if they put some yellow light inside the cave to enhance some of the structures inside the cave.  Map of the 3 passages Things that we saw inside the cave. Clockwise from top left: fossil on the cave

Kuching with Drama Queens Day 2

We went to Gunung Gading National Park hoping to see Rafflesia. On the way there, we had to board a ferry to cross Batang Rambungan and the ferry ride only cost RM1 per car. It was so cheap and we were wondering how much their profit is. The view on the way to Gunung Gading NP On the ferry crossing Batang Rambungan The RM1 ferry Once we reached the national park, the park ranger told us that no Rafflesia was currently in bloom. We should have called before coming here. Now, there’s only a bud and it will be a month before the flower is fully bloom. So we decided it was not worth it to see the bud. If we had wanted to see the Rafflesia bud, we have to pay RM30 per group for the park ranger to take us to the flower location. I think it will cost about RM30 as well if you wanted to see the Rafflesia flower in full bloom. We're here! Gunung Gading NP The lifecycle of Rafflesia So, we went jungle trekking instead. We took the trail to Waterfall No1 which was a
