Brisbane: The place I call home
Hi all,
Since I just came back from
Brisbane, today I’m writing about the city that had been my home for the past 4
years. Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia after Sydney and
Melbourne. The city is not as big and busy as Sydney but big enough to cater
the people there. Talking about the people, the people here in Brisbane are
really friendly. They’ll greet you when you hop on a bus in the morning; they
smile at you when you want to pay for your groceries. In short, the people here
are very warm and friendly that I don’t feel lost when I first arrived
here.
One thing that you must do when
you’re in Brisbane is to ride the Citycat. Citycat is unique to Brisbane and as
far as my knowledge goes I don’t think you can find it elsewhere. So what is
this Citycat that I’ve been rambling about? Well, Citycat is a public transport
that runs on the Brisbane River. Yes, we have public transport on water and the
price is the same as the bus and train services.
Talking about public transport, if
you travel in small groups (1-3 people) it’s advisable to make us of the
efficient public transport in and around Brisbane. All you need to do is get
yourselves a go-card which is like oyster card in London or TounchnGo in Malaysia
and you are ready for your journey. Don’t forget to touch the go-card every
time you get on and off the bus/train/ferry or else you’ll face a penalty of $2
which will be deducted off your go-card. Besides that, make sure you have
credit in your go-card or else you can’t continue your journey.
Once you’re in Brisbane, you must
also visit South Bank which is just a short walk across the bridge from the
CBD. There’s a variety of restaurants there for you to dine in and if you want
to watch a movie that doesn’t cost you a lot then this is the place to be.
Besides that, there’s also a man made beach at the Parkland which is another
major attraction of South Bank. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday; there’s a
lifestyle market where you can find variety of arts, craft items, home wares,
collectibles and designer fashions. South bank is also the place if you want good
night scenery of the city. The view from the riverbank is just BEAUTIFUL.
If you want to see the whole of
Brisbane, I suggest you go up to Mt-Cootha which is about 4km from the CBD in
the suburb of Toowong. You can get a panoramic view of Brisbane from the
lookout. This is one of the favourite scenic spot at sunrise, sunset and at
night. Another beautiful lookout point at night would be Kangaroo Point cliffs.
This place is also a famous recreational spot with picnic facilities. People
who enjoys rock climbing and abseiling; this is the place for you.
Lastly, if you love adventure and
you’re not scared of heights; I suggest you to climb the Story Bridge. Story
Bridge is one of the few bridges in the world that can be climbed and the best
time to climb would be during twilight as you can see the view both during the
day and at night. So, this is all I have to say for my first post in Malaysia.
P/S: Though it has only been a few
days, but I’m already missing Brisbane.
Till then~
