The Balik Kampung Trip: Gold Coast and Finale
Day
10: Our
last day Down Under as we’re scheduled to fly back to Malaysia the next day. We
started to the day by driving to West End Market. This was the place that we
used to go at least once a fortnight to do grocery shopping as you can get a
variety of fresh goods here for a reasonable price. Those days we took the
citycat across the river and then bus with our trolley or Cole’s shopping bag
to buy our pantry needs.
We had our breakfast of Hungary doughnut, Langos and
fresh fruits, then head we drove down to Gold Coast.

Our destination for
the day was Harbour town for some shopping before we went back home. We (I to
be exact) shopped a lot even though there wasn’t much sale going on.
During
lunch, we bumped into familiar faces (Latape and Emma) at the kebab shop. We
met Latape, who just landed in Gold Coast that morning and will be attending
his graduation ceremony in UQ the next day or so. Emma picked Latape and his
mum from the airport and driving them all the way to Brisbane.

At about 5pm, we head
to Surfers Paradise for a short visit before driving back to Brisbane. At
Surfers Paradise, we walked on the beach and walked along the town area.
We can’t
go back too late as we need to pack our stuff tonight as we need to go to the
airport early the next morning.

Day
11: Since
we’re staying in Brisbane we head to the airport at 5.15am to ensure that we
arrived at the airport early. It was sad to leave this place which I called
home for 4 years. This place was like my second home and it’s very close to my
heart. We promised each other that the three of us will come back to this place
in 15 years time. That’s all for my balik kampung trip.
Footnote: This trip
was more of an unplanned trip as we never really plan where we wanted to go. We
just went through the trip day by day, stopping by any interesting places that
we passed along the way. Even with accommodation, we just walked in and tried
our luck to see whether they have vacancy. Most of the time, we were lucky that
they have a vacant room for the four of us or else we’ll be sleeping on the
street or in the car.
